Responsibilities
- Recommends and endorses test methods, including validation, documentation, and installation of test systems.
- Maintains and updates recipes, instructions, bill of materials, and production schedules in the Manufacturing Production System.
- Schedules and plans production for the timely delivery of materials to the laboratory.
- Develops and maintains a detailed laboratory procedure manual, formatted to meet accreditation and licensing requirements.
- Selects, retains, and trains qualified laboratory personnel.
- Provides day-to-day oversight of laboratory operations and personnel performing reagent preparation, glassware, and autoclave procedures.
- Solves technical problems according to established policies and procedures, available to testing personnel during testing.
- Coordinates orientation and continuing education programs for all testing personnel.
- Attests annually that all personnel meet regulatory requirements and have adequate knowledge of test systems.
- Establishes necessary budgetary controls and maintains costs at an acceptable level.
- Prepares a monthly report detailing departmental activities, revenues, expenses, and the like.
- Attends laboratory meetings and informs department employees of pertinent information.
- Provides proper information for the professional services manual regularly.
- Informs the Manager of any issues related to reagent or supply performance.
- Ensures reagents, controls, and mixtures are manufactured in a timely manner to meet published turnaround times.
- Adheres to all established laboratory safety requirements.
- Uses personal protective equipment, including latex gloves, and follows engineering and work practice controls as directed by management.
- Oversees and maintains training files for the Manager and performs other administrative duties as required.
- Supports and complies with laboratory policies and procedures.
- Performs other job-related and miscellaneous duties as assigned by the Manager.
Qualifications
- Master of Science Degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science with at least two (2) years of work experience.
- Thorough knowledge of technical aspects of all tests performed and equipment utilized in the discipline for which he/she is responsible.
- Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Analytical skills necessary to determine and correct operating problems and schedule/planning work of others.
- Good written and verbal communications skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively and courteously communicate with all Quest Diagnostics employees and clients.
- Thorough knowledge and demonstrated support of the company’s policies, procedures, and goals.
- Required to handle biological samples and potentially hazardous chemicals.
