About the role
PacifiCorp is seeking customer-centric candidates to provide legal advice on a variety of complex commercial legal matters and projects. This position is located in Portland, Oregon or Salt Lake City, Utah.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal support on a wide range of commercial matters, including drafting, negotiating, and administration of contracts such as:
- Procurement contracts (service agreements, materials supply agreements, software license agreements)
- Power purchase agreements
- Real property transactions (acquisitions, dispositions, leases, easements, licenses)
- Build-transfer agreements
- Engineering, procurement, and construction agreements
- Non-disclosure agreements
- Customer agreements
- Finance agreements (including secured transactions)
- Transmission service agreements and generation interconnection agreements
- Provide legal counsel and direction to various operational units.
- Ensure appropriate application of all laws and regulations, including PacifiCorp’s tariffs, related to corporate and operational activities and transactions.
- Assess and mitigate legal risks of company activities and advise management and other company personnel on legal and strategic matters.
- Establish policies and procedures consistent with established legal principles and requirements.
- Monitor and maintain current knowledge of energy industry trends in legal and compliance matters and pursue ongoing professional development.
- Provide legal support in connection with state regulatory matters and represent the company in court, formal hearings, and/or regulatory/agency hearings.
- Consult with and manage outside legal counsel.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and successful completion of bar exam in one or more states in which the company conducts business, or capable of becoming licensed in such states.
- A minimum of five years of previous law firm experience as a transactional/commercial attorney.
- Demonstrated in-depth experience and knowledge with legal and/or regulatory issues applicable to electric utilities.
- Familiarity with the political and legal implications of decisions made by the company.
- Management skills including the ability to negotiate with and influence peers and senior officers on policy and strategic issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage and motivate employees.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new areas of law.
- Knowledge of the company’s strategic plan, regulatory and political environment, as well as the company’s policies, procedures, and practices, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Ability to assess and interpret external rules and regulations.

Pay
Hiring range: $155,300 - $213,510. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 20.00% of salary.
