Sr. Asst, Mfg Ops
The Opportunity
This position is responsible to the Saltwell Chip Mill Manager and/or Shift Leader for performing specified duties as assigned. It involves complying with methods, procedures, safety rules and regulations.
What you will impact
Work as a member of the chip yard crew, responsible for all operations, lubrication, housekeeping, inspections and ground maintenance involved in the handling, storage, and processing of wood to produce chips. Work with maintenance personnel to gain knowledge and understanding of the operation and its equipment. Perform any duties relating to functions for which the crew is responsible. Provide guidance and direction to other crew members when necessary. Perform preventative maintenance and minor repair of equipment and tools as needed. Operate various pieces of heavy equipment, including but not limited to log crane, chipper, knuckle boom, skid steer and frontend loaders. Install/Uninstall water pipes around yard to keep wood piles wet. Operate small equipment, including but not limited to clean-up tractors, trucks, boom truck, push mower and other small equipment to maintain the chip yard. Clean grounds and buildings to maintain an organized work environment, including sweeping, mopping, wiping counters, and mowing grassy areas.
What you need to succeed
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Must have a willingness to cross-train on the various equipment at the mill site.
- Must have 1 to 2 years of training provided on-the-job or may be obtained through satisfactory pre-employment experience.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency diploma.
- Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out verbal/written instructions.
- Must be able to understand/apply safety rules/guidelines as they pertain to company standards.
- Must be able to perform basic calculations.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be actively engaged in safety meetings and safety programs.
