About the Role

The Senior Assistant Director, Training and Staff Development will balance core admission officer responsibilities—recruitment and management of a regional territory—with leadership over key programmatic or process areas across the office. This role sits on the management team and partners with office leadership to develop goals, ensuring academic quality and diversity of perspectives in the incoming class. The position provides leadership across office-wide training initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership over a key business area within the undergraduate admissions office, including strategic direction, logistics, timelines, planning, and evaluation of processes and policies.
  • Oversees major programs and processes, connecting them to strategies in other areas to work toward institutional goals.
  • Builds relationships with relevant third parties (within Undergraduate Admissions and across the university) to collaborate effectively.
  • Works with the management team to develop a strategic vision for their area of focus.
  • Develops evaluative structures for effective programming and creates tools or analysis plans to improve work in strategic areas.
  • Builds short- and long-term plans to set goals, implement new strategies, and evaluate progress over time.
  • Identifies future areas for innovation and growth within their designated area.
  • Creates staff training content around their area of focus.
  • Manages a regional territory—reads applications, plans recruitment strategies, and manages constituent relationships.
  • Represents Johns Hopkins University Admissions in public events and information sessions.
  • Supports and oversees training and staff development by:
    • Partnering with the leadership team to execute the vision for office-wide staff development.
    • Collaborating with managers and project leads to identify staff training needs.
    • Creating a staff development strategy focused on continuous growth and impact.
    • Coordinating with departments across campus to provide timely presentations and information to staff.
    • Maintaining a year-round training calendar.
    • Overseeing the transition and onboarding of new staff members.
    • Creating surveys and feedback mechanisms to evaluate training efficacy.
    • Researching and staying informed about current industry trends.
    • Anticipating future training needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years of progressively responsible related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, faculty, and other university partners, as well as represent Johns Hopkins University to the public.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently, and as part of a team.
  • Strong event management and development skills.
  • Professionalism with both internal and external constituents.
  • Strong cultural competency and understanding of student educational experiences from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in standard office software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to build, propose, and maintain a budget.

Pay

Starting salary range: $57,195 – $100,040 annually (targeted range: $80,000 – $90,000, commensurate with experience).

Schedule

Full-time, Monday–Friday, with some nights and weekends required for events, recruitment, evaluation, and selection.

Location

Hybrid/Homewood Campus.
