We are seeking a Senior Assistant Director, Recruitment who will balance core admission officer responsibilities of recruitment and management of a regional territory while also providing leadership over a key programmatic or process area across the office. This position sits on the management team and partners with office leadership to develop goals ensuring academic quality and diverse perspectives in the incoming class. The role will provide leadership for off-campus recruitment, developing high-impact programming and increasing engagement with prospective students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership over a key business area within undergraduate admissions, including strategic direction, logistics, timelines, planning, and evaluation of processes and policies.
  • Oversee major programs and processes, connecting them to broader office strategies to meet institutional goals.
  • Build relationships with third parties (within admissions and across the university) to collaborate effectively.
  • Develop a strategic vision for designated areas of focus in partnership with the management team.
  • Create evaluative structures, tools, and analysis plans to assess and improve programming.
  • Build short- and long-term plans to set goals, implement new strategies, and evaluate progress.
  • Identify future areas for innovation and growth within the designated focus area.
  • Oversee staff training content related to the area of focus.
  • Utilize data to inform overarching strategy and approach.
  • Manage a regional territory: read applications, plan recruitment strategies, and manage constituent relationships.
  • Represent Johns Hopkins University Admissions at public events and information sessions.
  • Support the Director of Recruitment in developing and executing a comprehensive recruitment strategy.
  • Assist the recruitment team in implementing innovative, data-driven strategies for off-campus and virtual recruitment.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to identify staffing and logistical needs.
  • Build relationships and pipelines with key stakeholders, including counselors, community-based organizations (CBOs), and professional organizations.
  • Assess the success of current partnerships and present findings to the Director of Recruitment.
  • Identify new partnership opportunities and propose them to institutional leadership.
  • Utilize recruitment metrics and data analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of current strategies.
  • Complete qualitative and quantitative assessments of recruitment approaches.
  • Supervise Admissions Officers and support their growth and development.
  • Support the growth of staff members across the office in collaboration with the management team.
  • Oversee staff training related to recruitment.
  • Research best practices, trends, and technology to ensure the team uses the most effective tools and approaches.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, faculty, and other university partners.
  • Ability to represent Johns Hopkins University professionally to the public.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently, and as part of a team.
  • Strong event management and development skills.
  • High level of professionalism with both internal and external constituents.
  • Strong cultural competency and understanding of diverse student educational experiences.
  • Proficiency in standard office software applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to build, propose, and maintain a budget.
  • Extensive travel and willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years of progressively responsible related experience. Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as a college or university admissions officer, including recruitment and application review.

Pay

$57,195 - $100,040 annually (targeted range: $80,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience).

Schedule

8:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday, with some nights and weekends required for events, recruitment, evaluation, and selection.
