We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accounting Manager to oversee core accounting functions for a hospitality-focused organization in Monterey, California. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, strengthening controls, and delivering timely reporting that supports business decisions.
Responsibilities
- Direct daily accounting activities to ensure records are complete, accurate, and aligned with company policy and regulatory standards.
- Lead the preparation and review of reconciliations, journal entries, supporting schedules, and other financial documentation required for monthly reporting.
- Manage receivables by applying payments, balancing daily activity, investigating variances, and addressing account issues promptly.
- Oversee payables operations, including invoice approval workflows, coding accuracy, vendor account balancing, payment processing, and check runs.
- Coordinate payroll-related accounting tasks, including employee status updates, compensation changes, payroll review, and bi-weekly reconciliation.
- Complete bank reconciliations and drive the month-end close process to produce reliable financial statements and management reports.
- Partner with department leaders to improve financial procedures, support accurate expense coding, and monitor performance against budget.
- Track overdue balances, issue collection communications, and follow established procedures to resolve delinquent accounts.
- Contribute to tax and audit activities by preparing required support, including annual 1099 reporting and responses to accounting inquiries.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within hospitality, private club, resort, or other service-based organizations.
- Strong command of general ledger management, month-end close, account reconciliation, journal entries, and financial reporting.
- Prior experience supervising accounting operations or leading a finance team in a deadline-driven environment.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and audit support responsibilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities with a high degree of accuracy and discretion.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with operational leadership and corporate finance stakeholders.
