We are looking for a detail-oriented professional to join a contract opportunity based in Irving, Texas. In this role, you will strengthen the organization’s internal control environment by evaluating accounting processes, identifying risk areas, and partnering with cross-functional teams to improve compliance and operational effectiveness. This position also supports reporting cycles and financial review activities while helping management maintain accurate, well-documented control practices.
This is a 2-month contract position with a hybrid work schedule: 3 days per week in the office in Irving, TX and 2 days per week working from home.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate accounting and financial workflows to identify control gaps, process risks, and opportunities for stronger compliance measures.
- Partner with accounting and operational teams to establish, track, and maintain internal control activities aligned with the company’s procedural framework.
- Maintain an organized library of policies, procedures, narratives, and control matrices, ensuring documentation remains current, approved, and implemented.
- Review control performance through monitoring and testing to confirm that key controls are properly designed and functioning as intended.
- Investigate exceptions, procedural weaknesses, and inefficient practices, then present practical recommendations to improve accuracy and reduce risk.
- Discuss observed control issues with relevant stakeholders to validate findings, gather context, and support appropriate corrective actions.
- Assist with inventory and fixed asset count activities, including periodic travel when needed to support verification efforts.
- Prepare recurring management and audit-related reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, highlighting control status and findings.
- Contribute to month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, along with ad hoc financial and control analysis as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong experience with internal controls, internal audit, or accounting compliance within a corporate finance environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and the ability to analyze large sets of financial data.
- Knowledge of general ledger activity, accounting entries, and ledger-based financial review processes.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively, and follow through on assigned control-related tasks.
- Comfortable collaborating with team members across departments and providing support in a cooperative, solutions-focused manner.
- Strong logical thinking and communication skills with the ability to clearly explain findings, risks, and recommendations.
- Experience developing or maintaining policies, procedures, and other control documentation.
- Capability to perform ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and operational control reviews as business needs evolve.
