Sr. Accountant - Quickbooks Online /Multi-Entity
About the Opportunity
We are a growing, tight-knit professional services firm based in St. Louis that provides comprehensive outsourced accounting and financial operations support to a diverse portfolio of clients across industries including life sciences, SaaS, nonprofits, and more. Our team operates in an open, collaborative environment where personality is just as important as technical skill -- we work hard, invest in each other, and genuinely enjoy what we do. This is not a behind-the-scenes accounting role. You will be the point person for your clients, managing their day-to-day financial operations with an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong service orientation. If you thrive in a fast-moving, multi-client environment and want to own your work with minimal micromanagement, this is the role for you.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Manage the full-cycle accounting operations for a portfolio of 5 to 7 clients across multiple industries, functioning as their primary accounting contact
- Own all aspects of month-end close including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, depreciation and amortization, and equity-related entries
- Prepare and review account reconciliations across bank accounts, credit cards, balance sheet, and P&L accounts
- Produce monthly financial packages including management reports, board decks, and investor updates
- Monitor cash flow and proactively advise clients on their financial position, including rolling forecasts and budget-versus-actual analysis
- Handle AP, AR, and payroll processing in coordination with client-preferred platforms
- Support clients with HR-adjacent functions including onboarding coordination, PTO tracking, and benefits-related fielding through payroll providers
- Assist clients with state business registration compliance and annual filing deadlines
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor across vendors, CPAs, and key stakeholders
- Collaborate with CPAs at year-end to deliver final financials, W-2s, 1099s, R&D tax credit support, and all necessary tax prep materials
- Participate in client board meetings and investor presentations when needed
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5 to 10 years of professional accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or client-management capacity
- Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously with strong attention to detail and time management
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills -- you must be comfortable running client meetings and engaging with executives, investors, and board members
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO) -- this is a non-negotiable requirement
- Experience with AP and expense management platforms such as Ramp.com is a significant plus
- Familiarity with payroll software such as Gusto, JustWorks, Insperity, or similar platforms
- Proficiency in Excel and comfort learning new accounting and ERP tools quickly
- Familiarity with deferred revenue accounting, cash flow forecasting, and startup financial modeling is highly desirable
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- CPA license is not required but any public accounting or multi-entity background is a plus
Why This Role Stands Out
- True autonomy -- once up to speed, you manage your clients like your own book of business with full ownership and minimal oversight
- Collaborative, energetic team culture -- this is not your typical accounting environment
- Exposure to diverse industries including life sciences, biotech, SaaS, and nonprofits
- Flexible hours with consistent schedule expectations -- no rigid 9-to-5 mandate
- Competitive compensation ($85K to $100K) plus medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, FSA, generous PTO, and life insurance
- Opportunity to grow with a firm that is actively expanding its client base
