Accounting$40/hrPart-time
Confidential posting for a part-time, remote accounting role based in Evanston, Illinois. Hourly rate: $40/hour. Hybrid/remote work allowed.
About the role
We're hiring a part-time, remote accountant or CPA to review financial statements in QuickBooks Online for a mix of for-profit and nonprofit clients. These financials are for internal owner/board use, not external stakeholders, so a CPA license is a plus but not required. We're primarily looking for sharp, detail-oriented review experience with QuickBooks Online and comfort with nonprofit fund accounting basics.
This flexible, work-from-home role is a great fit for a semi-retired CPA, senior bookkeeper, or controller-level professional looking for light, part-time hours with no in-office requirement.
Responsibilities
- Review monthly and periodic financial statements prepared in QuickBooks Online for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
- Spot-check account reconciliations, journal entries, and classifications
- Flag anomalies, errors, or areas needing follow-up with the preparing team
- Provide a brief written summary of findings for each engagement reviewed
- Apply nonprofit-specific accounting considerations (fund accounting, net asset classifications, grant restrictions) where relevant
- Communicate findings clearly and professionally with our internal team
Requirements
- Several years of experience preparing or reviewing financial statements, ideally including nonprofit fund accounting
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online
- Experience with both for-profit and nonprofit financial statements
- Comfortable working independently in a remote, asynchronous environment
- Excellent attention to detail and clear written communication
- Reliable availability for roughly 6–8 hours per week (schedule is flexible and can be split across days)
Preferred Qualifications
- Active or retired CPA license (a plus, not required)
- Prior public accounting, audit/review, or controller-level experience
- Familiarity with nonprofit compliance requirements (e.g., Form 990 basics, grant reporting, net asset classifications)
- Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior staff
Benefits
- Fully remote — work from anywhere
- Very part-time and flexible — ideal for semi-retirement or a reduced-hours lifestyle
- Meaningful, varied work across both commercial and mission-driven organizations
- No commute, no office politics, no minimum full-time commitment
