Sr. Accountant

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly close activities by preparing and reviewing journal entries, maintaining ledger accuracy, and helping ensure timely completion of reporting deadlines.
• Perform detailed reconciliations for balance sheet accounts and investigate variances to resolve discrepancies promptly and thoroughly.
• Manage bank account balancing activities by comparing transactions, identifying exceptions, and correcting outstanding issues as needed.
• Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules to provide clear, accurate information for internal and external reporting needs.
• Analyze accounting records and financial data to confirm completeness, consistency, and compliance with established standards.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather required documentation, clarify account activity, and support ongoing financial reporting processes.
• Use Microsoft Excel to organize, validate, and summarize accounting data for recurring reports and ad hoc analysis.
• Contribute to process support related to accounting systems and reporting workflows when needed as part of departmental operations.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of accounting experience, including substantial responsibility for month-end close activities.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation practices.
• Hands-on experience completing bank reconciliations and preparing accurate financial statements and related reports.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at an intermediate level, including the ability to work efficiently with financial data.
• Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines, maintain accuracy, and prioritize multiple accounting tasks effectively.
• Background in higher education accounting is preferred.
• Experience with Cardinal is highly desired!

Qualifications
