Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Accountant to join a growing accounting team in the Tupelo, Mississippi area. This position will take the lead on project invoicing and accounts payable activities while supporting core accounting functions such as reconciliations, general ledger work, and budgeting. The role works closely with project managers and offers room to expand into broader accounting responsibilities based on capability and performance. Responsibilities:• Manage project billing activities by compiling required documentation, verifying details, and preparing accurate invoices in a timely manner.• Oversee accounts payable processing, including reviewing invoices, assigning correct general ledger codes, and supporting proper payment workflows.• Prepare and maintain account reconciliations to ensure financial records are complete, balanced, and well supported.• Assist with general ledger activity by recording journal entries, reviewing balances, and helping maintain accurate financial reporting.• Partner with project managers to gather billing information, resolve discrepancies, and keep project-related financial data current.• Contribute to month-end close tasks by organizing supporting schedules, analyzing account activity, and addressing variances.• Support budgeting and other accounting initiatives as business needs evolve and responsibilities expand within the department.• Adapt to internal accounting systems and use Excel to organize, analyze, and report financial information effectively. • At least 3 years of accounting experience with hands-on exposure to billing, accounts payable, and general ledger activities.• Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.• Experience preparing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, and assisting with month-end close processes.• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with many moving parts.• Proficiency in Excel and confidence learning unfamiliar accounting systems and software tools.• Effective communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with project managers and internal stakeholders.• Background in construction accounting is helpful but not required.
