Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support financial operations for a construction-focused business in Sanford, Florida. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing close activities, and providing insight into project and operational performance. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with regional and operating unit teams in a deadline-driven environment. Responsibilities: • Lead assigned month-end close activities by preparing schedules, recording entries, and completing deliverables within required timeframes. • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and project-related balances, research discrepancies, and resolve or elevate outstanding issues as needed. • Prepare journal entries for items such as depreciation, prepaid costs, insurance, reserves, intercompany activity, and other assigned accounts with proper documentation. • Review project financial data, including work in progress and cost-to-complete information, to identify margin shifts, cost variances, and billing imbalances. • Analyze overhead and indirect expenses for unusual trends, classification issues, and significant deviations from expectations. • Partner with operating units to develop forecasts, evaluate assumptions, and explain changes compared with budget and prior results. • Support audit, tax, payroll, and compliance activities by preparing schedules, reconciling assigned accounts, and responding to documentation requests. • Maintain oversight of fixed assets, leases, inventory-related records, and payment card activity to ensure accuracy, control, and policy compliance. • Provide guidance to accounting staff on close procedures, reconciliations, and company standards while helping improve consistency and reporting efficiency across teams. • Assist the Regional Controller with special projects, backup accounting support, acquisition integration efforts, and process improvements. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. • Demonstrated experience in senior-level accounting responsibilities, preferably within construction or project-based environments. • Strong knowledge of month-end close, general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliations. • Experience reviewing project costs, work in progress, revenue recognition, and overbilling or underbilling balances. • Ability to analyze financial results, investigate variances, and communicate findings clearly to business partners and leadership. • Familiarity with internal controls, audit support, and compliance-related accounting documentation. • Proficiency in accounting systems and spreadsheet tools, with strong attention to accuracy and deadlines.
