About The Role
The Sr Accountant plays a key role in keeping Happen Bank's financial reporting accurate, timely, and audit-ready. This role owns core general ledger, reconciliation, and close activities that keep our books clean and our controls strong. It's a great opportunity to build deep accounting fluency while contributing directly to the integrity of our financial statements.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries and support the monthly and quarterly close process
- Complete account reconciliations across cash, loans, and reserves, resolving discrepancies with accuracy and follow-through
- Maintain the general ledger, ensuring transactions align with accounting policy and internal controls
- Support balance sheet and income statement analysis, flagging variances for review
- Use AI tools where appropriate to speed up reconciliations, research, and reporting, while confirming outputs are accurate before they're used
- Assist with internal and external audit requests, pulling documentation and responding to routine inquiries
- Partner with Finance, Credit, and Operations teammates to understand the accounting impact of new transactions and initiatives
- Contribute to process improvement efforts, including automating recurring reconciliation and reporting tasks
Requirements
- 2+ years of accounting experience; bachelor's degree or higher, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Precision and follow-through to recurring accounting tasks, even when the volume is high
- Experience using AI tools in your daily life, with opinions about their strengths, weaknesses, and when to trust their output
- Strong questioning and feedback skills as you build accounting judgment
- Clear communication with teammates across finance and adjacent teams
- Attention to detail, from reconciliations to footnotes
Nice to Have
- Exposure to ERP systems (e.g., Oracle Fusion)
- CPA candidacy
- Experience in financial services, fintech, or another regulated environment
Work Location
This role is based in San Francisco. The position requires in-person attendance Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays under a hybrid work model. In-person collaboration is essential for this role’s success, and remote placement will not be considered.

Time Zone Requirements
Local hours (PT) are required, though flexibility to work across time zones may occasionally be needed, as Happen Bank is headquartered in Pacific Time.
Travel Requirements
As needed travel to Happen Bank offices or other locations.
Pay
The target base salary range for this position is $88,000–$103,000. The base salary will be determined by job-related knowledge, experience, education, skills, and location. Base salary is part of Happen Bank's Total Rewards package, which may also include long-term awards (equity) and an annual bonus based on company and employee performance.
