SQL Server Database Administrator III

About the role

We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator III to support enterprise-scale database environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on expertise with Microsoft SQL Server, along with production experience supporting PostgreSQL and exposure to MongoDB.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support SQL Server databases across development, QA, production, and disaster recovery environments.
• Install, configure, patch, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server 2016-2022 instances according to enterprise standards.
• Manage and support PostgreSQL environments and provide production support for additional RDBMS platforms such as MongoDB.
• Perform database backup, restore, recovery, capacity planning, and disaster recovery testing.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database performance, connectivity, blocking, integrity, and availability issues.
• Configure and support SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, and Distributed Availability Groups.
• Develop automation and administrative scripts using T-SQL, PowerShell, Python, Ansible, and related technologies.
• Support database deployments across Microsoft Azure and AWS cloud environments.
• Participate in DevOps and CI/CD pipelines for database deployment and automation.
• Work within enterprise ticketing systems to resolve incidents, service requests, and critical production issues.
• Support database security, access management, maintenance, and operational compliance.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, DevOps, and architecture teams on database initiatives.
• Contribute to database architecture, standards, documentation, automation, and continuous process improvements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience in enterprise environments.
• Strong experience administering SQL Server 2016-2022; SQL Server 2025 experience is a plus.
• Production-level experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Strong knowledge of SQL Server Always On AGs, Failover Clustering, and Distributed Availability Groups.
• Experience with Azure and AWS cloud environments and database services.
• Strong T-SQL and PowerShell scripting skills.
• Exposure to Python and Ansible for database automation is preferred.
• Experience working in VMware/virtualized environments.
• Familiarity with Zerto is a plus.
• Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, backup/recovery, and disaster recovery experience.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• High school diploma/GED required.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidates will have a combination of senior SQL Server DBA expertise, PostgreSQL/MongoDB production experience, HA/DR knowledge, cloud administration, and database automation within large enterprise environments.

Additional Information

This is a 6-month contract position with potential for conversion to a permanent role based on performance and business requirements. The role is located in Houston, TX and requires 100% onsite presence, 5 days a week. A video interview and onsite interview are required. A LinkedIn profile is also required.
