SQL Database Administrator

About the role

Current need is for a Database Administrator 2 to assist with migrating existing databases from one hosted platform to a new hosted platform. The role involves moving or migrating databases, as well as systems validation after migration. This position will handle day-to-day break/fix incident response in our SQL environment, which runs on a SQL Max platform hardware solution dedicated for SQL performance. SQL versions in use range from 2008 to 2019. There is also a small Oracle footprint; some Oracle experience is beneficial, but the primary focus will be SQL.

Other daily tasks may include running updates, restores, and recovery as needed. The goal is to free up our dedicated DBA, who is primarily focused on project work and migrations, including a current SQL migration project moving from end-of-life hardware to a new solution.

Responsibilities

• Administer and manage production databases
• Perform basic to advanced troubleshooting
• Handle backup, recovery, and monitoring of databases
• Communicate effectively within a team environment and with customers
• Conduct security assessments and reviews of database administration and access
• Design, configure, deploy, troubleshoot, administer, and maintain systems
• Ensure project and workload documentation and processes are accurate, on time, and stored properly
• Assist with database migrations and post-migration validation
• Perform updates, restores, and recovery tasks as required

Requirements

• Considerable working background in Microsoft SQL database administration
• Experience with database architecture and troubleshooting in a working environment
• Working knowledge of backing up and restoring production databases
• 5 years of experience in the following areas:
  • Administration and management of production databases
  • Basic to advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Backup, recovery, and monitoring of databases
  • Communication within a team environment and customer-facing interactions
  • Security assessment and review of database administration and access
  • Design, configuration, deployment, troubleshooting, administration, and maintenance of systems
  • Ensuring project and workload documentation and processes are accurate and properly stored
