This position is with Child and Youth Services (CYS) Youth Sports and Fitness at Fort Polk in Leesville, Louisiana. Regular part-time role eligible for leave accrual and benefits.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a sports specialist/clinician in a Child and Youth Services (CYS) program, providing support and assistance to the CYS Sports and Fitness Director and installation volunteer sports coaches
• Model appropriate behaviors and techniques; assist coaches in creating environments, selecting materials/equipment, and planning meaningful practices supporting the sport season
• Conduct practice and game visits to provide support and assistance
• Inspect sports facilities/programs to ensure safety compliance; recommend equipment purchases to maintain safety standards
• Secure supplies, equipment, and facilities
• Provide oversight and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army, and local policies, guidance, and standards
• Maintain control of and account for the whereabouts and safety of children and youth

Requirements

• Direct Deposit and Social Security Card required
• Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements
• A one-year probationary period may be required
• Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check
• Subject to pre-employment checks including a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation per AR 215-3, para. 2
• Must complete a health assessment including all required immunizations
• Must possess and maintain physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand routinely
• Must obtain/maintain CPR/First Aid certification
• Must obtain National Association of Youth Sports Clinician Certification within six months of employment
• Access to certain federal facilities may require a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license/ID or an Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL) from WA, MI, MN, NY, or VT

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages or less, clearly demonstrating relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities. Resumes should not include photos.

• Possess a bachelor’s degree or higher in physical education, OR
• All of the following equivalent in scope and complexity to the next lower grade level:
  • Experience managing or assisting in the delivery of a sports or physical education program including both individual and team sports
  • Demonstrated knowledge of skills and techniques needed for various sports
  • Experience coaching or working with coaches to apply techniques and required skills/fundamentals for various sports

Highly Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working in a sports program specifically for children or youth, OR
• At least 12 semester hours in college coursework directly related to children or youth (e.g., PE for children, motor skills development, childhood development, early/elementary/secondary education, health/nutrition for children, child/adolescent psychology)

Highly preferred candidates may be considered first for the position.

Education

Relevant transcripts or certificates must be provided to support eligibility. Transcripts must be in English, legible, and reflect the school’s name and applicant’s name. Education must be accredited by an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
