About the Role

Deliver a wide range of installation youth fitness, health, and outreach programs in multiple Child & Youth Services (CYS) settings. Develop and maintain partnerships with schools and community organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans and age-appropriate environments within an existing curriculum, incorporating a broad range of fitness and health activities for early childhood, school-age, and youth participants.
  • Assist in training coaches using National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) guidelines, including planning practices for warm-up/cool-down techniques, injury prevention, and proper use of materials and equipment.
  • Share expertise in age-appropriate exercises and skills development for children and youth.
  • Inspect facilities and programs to ensure compliance with applicable standards; make recommendations for improvements.
  • Secure supplies, equipment, and facilities as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card are required.
  • Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check and all pre-employment checks, including a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Must complete a health assessment, including all required immunizations.
  • Must possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Must obtain and maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.
  • Must currently possess or have the ability to obtain (within six months of employment) a fitness certification from a nationally recognized organization (e.g., National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), National Strength and Conditioning Association, National Aerobics and Fitness Trainers Association (NAFTA)).

Qualifications

Resumes must clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities for this position.

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in exercise physiology, exercise science, kinesiology, physical education, or other fitness-related disciplines.
  • OR equivalent experience in the following:
    • Application of fitness principles, concepts, and techniques through delivery of a comprehensive group fitness program.
    • Knowledge of basic health and nutrition concepts, demonstrated through experience or education.
    • Experience training coaches or other professionals (e.g., teachers, caregivers, fitness instructors) in the proper application of sports or fitness techniques.

Highly Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in planning, evaluation, or delivery of a fitness program or curriculum specifically for children or youth.
  • At least 12 semester hours in college coursework directly related to children or youth (e.g., PE for children, motor skills development, childhood development, early/elementary/secondary education, health/nutrition for children, child/adolescent psychology).

Proof of education is required at the time of application. Education must be directly related to the position; general education courses do not count toward the credit total.

  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized.
  • Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid.
  • Access to certain federal facilities may require a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license/ID or an Enhanced Driver’s License (EDL).
