About the role

This position is on a 10/12 Pay Plan at 0.8 FTE, which means working 10 months per year, yet having salary paid out over 12 months.

Responsibilities

  • Treat sports injuries and common medical conditions
  • Evaluate injuries and create treatment and recovery plans
  • Perform basic medical procedures (stitches, splints, etc.)
  • Order and review tests like X-rays and labs
  • Educate patients on injury prevention and overall health
  • Work with other healthcare staff and SJSU Athletics
  • Keep accurate medical records
  • Participate in meetings and health programs
  • Help improve services and patient care

Requirements

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a diverse, multicultural population in a university community
  • Thorough understanding of general medicine, public health principles, and diagnostic clinical decision-making, with the ability to provide treatment and medical counseling
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently prioritize patients’ problems based on urgency and demonstrated critical thinking to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment
  • Ability and manual dexterity to perform patient care tasks, along with capacity to quickly assess emergency situations and take prompt action
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations, as well as the ethics and standards of practicing medicine, enabling compliance with policies and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, business writing, punctuation, and spelling, enabling effective correspondence and report formatting
  • Technical skills to work with medical records and scheduling software’s; acuity in learning new software as applicable to position responsibilities
  • Excellent customer service and public relations skills, facilitating effective communication across a variety of venues
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a medical school
  • Licenses and Certifications: Physicians - Specialty Services must possess and maintain a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California, current board certification in an ABMS or AOA specialty or subspecialty appropriate for their assigned specialty duties, DEA registration and number for prescribing controlled substances, CPR/AED certification, completion of residency programs and/or fellowships accredited by ACGME or equivalent in a specialty appropriate to their assigned specialty duties
