Sports and Fitness Director (CYS) NF-04

This position is with Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Youth Sports and Fitness at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. Childcare fee discounts are available for employees working at least 15 hours per week: first child receives a 100% discount, and subsequent children receive a 25% discount.

Duties

• Serve as Sports and Fitness (S/F) Director under the direction of the installation CYS Coordinator, with overall responsibility for the operation, integration, coordination, and oversight of a comprehensive CYS Sports and Fitness Program.
• Develop a broad volunteer program, including recruiting, training, certifying, and managing coaches and officials for various sports.
• Ensure staff and volunteers follow risk management procedures (e.g., abuse prevention, identification, and reporting; accident prevention).
• Monitor adult/participant ratios to enforce proper staffing policies.
• Initiate and maintain relationships with local schools, community agencies, and similar groups to develop beneficial partnerships for CYS program participants.
• Serve as Subject Matter Expert on installation Child and Youth Services sports and fitness issues.
• Prepare reports, surveys, and briefings for command and installation on matters pertaining to CYS.

Requirements

• Must meet qualification, eligibility, and background requirements for the position.
• A one-year probationary period may be required.
• Must satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks, including a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
• Must complete a health assessment, including all required immunizations.
• Must possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
• Must obtain and maintain certification in CPR/First Aid.
• Must obtain (within 6 months of employment) and maintain certification as a Youth Sports Administrator through the National Alliance of Youth Sports.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages or less and clearly demonstrate relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities.

• A qualified candidate must possess one of the following:
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in physical education, OR
  • At least one year of experience as a director or assistant director of a child/youth or sports and fitness or physical education program, including a variety of individual and team sports.
  • Experience applying nationally-recognized requirements (e.g., NAYS, NYS, NYSCA) to recruit, train, and manage coaches for various sports, or experience coaching multiple youth sports.
  • Experience in delivering or demonstrated knowledge of requirements for age-appropriate health and fitness programs for children/youth.
  • Experience in developing partnerships with schools, community organizations, or similar.
• Highly preferred qualifications include:
  • A master's degree or two years of graduate-level education with substantial coursework related to children or youth (e.g., PE for children, motor skills development, childhood development, early/elementary/secondary education, health/nutrition for children, child/adolescent psychology), OR
  • At least two years of experience directing a child/youth sports and fitness or physical education program.

Pay

This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
