About the role

This role provides accounting and analytical support to the Sponsored Programs Finance team. Responsible for managing a moderate sponsored projects portfolio, the analyst serves as the financial contact for department administrators, principal investigators, and central research administration. Daily tasks include account analysis, communication with the research community and sponsors, and ensuring fiscal compliance with all applicable policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of sponsored projects, performing post-award functions such as award setup, budget and expense analysis, monthly invoicing, financial reporting, and re-budgeting.
  • Communicate with investigators and department administrators regarding post-award financial management, including spending vs. budget, unbilled/billed amounts, aged receivables, unreconciled accounts, and deficits.
  • Conduct regular meetings with department administrators and principal investigators to review account status.
  • Perform grant closeout functions, including reconciliation, financial report preparation/submission, final invoicing, purchase order liquidations, carryover of available funds, and accounts receivable follow-up.
  • Resolve issues with sponsors, including outstanding receivables, budget adjustments, and information gathering.
  • Handle ongoing departmental tasks such as shared email inbox management, accounts receivable, vendor invoices/uploads, journal entries, purchase order management, LOC draw preparation, batch invoicing, grant ending notifications, and submonitoring/payment of subinvoices.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports for internal stakeholders and external sponsors, conducting variance analyses to identify and address discrepancies.
  • Support internal and external sponsor audits by compiling documentation and liaising with department staff.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and sponsor-specific regulations, including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
  • Provide guidance to principal investigators on financial matters, including budget modifications and financial projections.
  • Liaise with the Office of Sponsored Programs, Finance, and external sponsors.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance financial management and reporting processes.
  • Stay current on hospital policies and federal/non-federal regulations, including OMB 2 CFR 200, 45 CFR Appendix IX, and PHS grants policy statements.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.
  • High School/GED: Minimum 5 years of experience in grant management.
  • BS/BA: 1–3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in an accounting or financial role.

Skills

  • Strong computer skills, including comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills with effective verbal and written communication.
  • Deductive reasoning and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.

Pay

Compensation range: $62,500 – $91,000. This range is based on minimum job qualifications and considers factors such as education, experience, skills, certifications, business needs, internal equity, and market competitiveness. Geographic location may modify the range.
