Speech Pathologist - Vista Outpatient Rehab Center

About the Role

Provides Speech Language Pathology to patients referred, including assessment, treatment plan development and implementation with follow-up, and discharge planning. Actively assists with clinical aspects of the department, including program development, department operations, and Performance Improvement activities. Assists with supervising and coordinating the Speech Language Pathology student programs and supervises volunteers.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive diagnostic evaluations to determine the status of speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing abilities of inpatients and outpatients, considering diagnosis and age-specific needs.
• Develops and implements individualized treatment plans with patient/family participation, considering diagnosis and age-specific needs, including measurable goals and methods to achieve them.
• Adheres to policies and procedures relating to documentation, including initial patient evaluations, daily and weekly progress notes, discharge summaries, and other notations as appropriate.
• Participates in patient care conferences, family conferences, in-service programs, departmental, and interdepartmental meetings.
• Counsels patients (if appropriate), families, and other involved individuals regarding patient evaluation, care, and treatment. Initiates and completes discharge planning in a timely manner and provides effective education and training.
• Assists with coordination and supervision of the Speech Language Pathology student program and the volunteer program.
• Actively assists with clinical aspects of the department, including orientation of new associates, scheduling of patients, and appropriate staff supervision.

• Complies with and develops efficient and creative ways to maintain departmental productivity standards.
• Maintains awareness of other community agencies to make appropriate referrals and increase knowledge of community resources.
• Identifies and provides educational opportunities for self, department, and community. Participates in research activities as appropriate.
• Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets age-specific, developmental, and population-specific needs of patients served.
• Adapts assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate unique physical, psychological, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient.
• Fosters and promotes positive and professional relationships with medical staff, physicians, and referral sources.
• Performs other related duties as directed.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Speech Language Pathology.
• Qualifications for the Clinical Fellowship Year as outlined by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
• Licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist by the State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
• Certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
• BLS certification.
• Must successfully complete pre-employment/post-job offer health screening and annual screening thereafter as an employee.

Skills

• Proficiency in all assessment and treatment tools routinely used by a Speech Language Pathologist as outlined by the State Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.

Schedule

5 days, 8 hours per day.
