About the role

Atlantic Health is seeking a motivated and skilled Speech-Language Pathologist (CCC-SLP) to join our inpatient Rehabilitative Services team at Newton and Hackettstown Medical Centers. This position is ideal for a compassionate clinician who thrives in a collaborative, patient-centered environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans for patients with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in the acute care setting.
  • Implement evidence-based interventions to improve patient function and safety.
  • Provide timely documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Make recommendations for diet, communication strategies, and discharge planning.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing, case management, and therapy teams.
  • Provide education to patients, families, and staff regarding communication and swallowing needs.
  • Serve as a mentor/preceptor for SLP I staff, students, and new hires.
  • Function as a clinical resource for complex or high-risk patients.
  • Participate in department initiatives, program development, or specialty practice areas (e.g., dysphagia, stroke, critical care).
  • Support quality improvement, data tracking, and regulatory readiness activities.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong clinical reasoning and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork across disciplines.
  • Experience with instrumental swallow studies (MBSS/FEES).
  • Commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.
  • Current ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) required.
  • Active state licensure required.
  • Acute care experience preferred.
