Speech Pathologist - Feeding Experience Preferred
About the role
The Speech Pathologist is responsible for diagnosing and providing therapy for patients with disorders of communication and swallowing, including neonates, infants, toddlers, school age children, adolescents, and adults. Duties include planning, organizing, and coordinating care, selecting outcome goals, and skilled interventions. The role also involves using agency and community resources to support patient and family independence.
Responsibilities
- Delivers clinically appropriate evaluation and therapy services to patients with disorders of communication and swallowing.
- Evaluates and provides treatment for developmental disorders, clinical dysphagia, Modified Barium Swallow study, speaking valve, and oral motor disorders.
- Ensures evaluations are timely and accurate.
- Provides treatment to patients referred for Speech Therapy.
- Able to provide Speech Therapy services to patients with a variety of diagnoses.
- Uses appropriate strategies based on patient’s age, diagnosis, evidence, and best practice.
- Documents results of Speech Therapy services in the EMR.
- Documents and charges accurately reflect time spent with the patient.
- May supervise students, Clinical Fellows, therapy technicians, and volunteers.
- Takes an active role in departmental or programmatic activities.
Requirements
- Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.
- Licensed Speech Therapy through the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
- New graduates must obtain Certification of Clinical Competency by ASHA within one year of hire.
