About the role

The Greater Manchester Region has approximately 2,500 employees, including Manchester Memorial Hospital and Rockville General. This position serves a region of 300,000 people in 19 towns.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients based on departmental standards and establishes individualized, measurable goals for each patient.
  • Treats patients using appropriate and acceptable therapeutic techniques, including physical agents and manual therapeutic methods.
  • Administers speech and language activities to help normalize speech and language function.
  • Develops and implements home exercise programs and functional activities to enhance independent activity levels.
  • Determines when a patient has reached maximum benefit from treatment and makes recommendations for discharge if necessary.
  • Accurately documents patient progress and ensures compliance with insurance guidelines and department policies.
  • Maintains open communication with other departments and referring physicians to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Fills out and submits charges accurately and consistently.
  • Adheres to professional ethical standards set by the ASHA and the facility.
  • Ensures proper body mechanics and safety during treatment sessions to prevent injuries.
  • Supervises at least one affiliated student per year, participating in their training and development.
  • Attends continuing education courses to stay updated on treatment techniques and professional developments.
  • Participates in at least one departmental or community in-service training session per year.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program in Speech Language Pathology with a minimum of a Master's degree.
  • Holds a current Connecticut license for Speech Language Pathology.
  • Has obtained a Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association.
  • Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Basic personal computer skills, including proficiency in Windows-based programs like Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel between multiple work sites as required.
