Primary Purpose
Aid schools in developing educational plans for students with speech and language disorders through evaluations, therapy, and ARD committee participation.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in speech-language pathology
- Valid Texas license as a speech-language pathologist
- Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology (preferred)
Major Responsibilities And Job Duties
- Plan and provide individual and group therapy consistent with IEP goals
- Select and administer assessments to evaluate speech or language disorders
- Participate in ARD committees to set goals and placements
- Evaluate student progress and determine therapy readiness
- Counsel parents and collaborate with teachers on remedial processes
- Implement classroom-based activities to improve communication
- Train school personnel on communication deficits
- Compile, maintain, and file reports and documents
- Maintain positive relationships with supervisors and colleagues
- Communicate effectively with all staff and maintain emotional control under stress
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise speech-language pathologist interns, assistants, and graduate students
Working Conditions
- Mental Demands: Effective communication, decision-making, and attention to detail
- Physical Demands: Prolonged sitting and standing, frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, walking, repetitive computer work, frequent use of hands and wrists, light lifting (less than 15 pounds), and occasional prolonged and irregular hours
- Environmental Factors: Normal office and campus environments
