Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)

About the Role

The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides direct rehabilitation care in speech therapy to patients upon physician referral, adhering to all applicable laws, regulations, and Life Care standards.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited program in speech therapy (minimum MS or MA SLP).
• ASHA certified (CCCs) OR eligible for a 9-month Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) to earn ASHA certification and/or meet ASHA credentialing criteria. Must maintain ASHA credentialing once achieved.
• Currently registered/licensed in the applicable State. Must maintain an active license in good standing throughout employment.
• One (1) year of experience preferred; new graduates are welcome to apply.
• CPR certification upon hire or obtain during orientation. Certification must remain current during employment.
• Must be experienced with long-term and short-term care programming.
• Must be comfortable, caring, and understand the principles of working with residents who have a Dementia diagnosis.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
• Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
• Knowledge of practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines governing post-acute care facilities.
• Must demonstrate good body mechanics at all times.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Responsibilities

• Establish, assess, and modify realistic, measurable, timely, and functional goals (SLP CCC only).
• Oversee and evaluate care given by SLP CFYs (SLP CCC only).
• Follow speech therapy treatment plans for patients under the direction of the supervising SLP CCC and in accordance with Federal and State guidelines (SLP CFY only).
• Chart appropriately and timely.
• Utilize therapy software accurately.
• Exhibit excellent customer service and maintain a positive attitude towards patients.
• Assist in the evacuation of patients.
• Demonstrate dependable, regular attendance.
• Concentrate and use reasoning skills and good judgment.
• Communicate and function productively on an interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in community health matters/projects as appropriate.
• Liaison with patients, families, and support departments to adequately plan for patient needs.
• Implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department.
• Perform proficiently in all competency areas, including patient rights, safety, and sanitation.
• Maintain professional working relationships with associates, vendors, etc.
• Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
• Understand and follow company policies, including harassment and compliance procedures.
• Display integrity and professionalism by adhering to Life Care’s Code of Conduct and complete mandatory training.
• Sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours.
