Job Overview

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for providing competent evaluation and treatment to inpatients and/or out-patients in compliance with LWRMC policies, standards and philosophy, JCAHO standards, and the ASHA Code of Ethics. The SLP will provide interventions to individuals who experience a loss of and/or a deficiency in functional independence as related to communications and/or oral-motor functions.

The therapist must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to problem solve and work effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians, ability to plan and organize, and the ability to work independently and in teams. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Remain current with FL State SLP License and BLS Certification.
• Complete evaluations within time frames set by departmental policy.
• Ensure evaluations meet JCAHO, Medicare, and other regulatory agency requirements.
• Demonstrate proficiency in basic evaluative skills and evaluation of patients with neurological pathology.
• Demonstrate proficiency in basic treatment techniques.
• Identify physical and psychosocial changes related to specific age groups.
• Provide instructions in language appropriate for the patient’s age, avoiding medical jargon.
• Attend at least one conference/workshop per year and provide in-service to peers.
• Include other disciplines and team members as resources during the care planning process.
