Speech language pathologists at Special Kids provide speech and language therapy services to children from birth to age 21 with a variety of diagnoses and developmental delays. They diagnose and evaluate speech and language skills, provide treatment, and collaborate with other disciplines.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Diagnose and evaluate speech and language skills and provide treatment to children with communication disorders, diagnoses, and developmental delays.
- Program and provide instruction on the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices as applicable.
- Coordinate participation in multi-sensory, educational, functional, and social activities designed to help patients develop or regain abilities and function or adapt to disabilities.
- Select constructive activities suited to the patient’s physical capacity, comprehension level, and interest to upgrade the individual to maximum independence.
- Instruct patients and families in treatment procedures for best carryover in multiple environments.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient reports and documentation in electronic medical records.
- Administer, score, and interpret evaluation reports to develop and modify an individualized treatment plan.
- Review treatment plans, assess individual performance, and modify, change, or write new goals; observe patients during treatments and compile and evaluate data on patients’ responses to treatments and progress.
- Maintain high patient care productivity.
- Maintain an awareness of the patient attendance policy, enforcing it impartially and consistently at all times.
- Consult with educational, medical, and other professional groups as well as fellow staff members.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to incorporate speech and language goals into daily activities.
- Research and implement new speech therapy techniques.
- Refer patients for other services, whether internal or external, as warranted and appropriate.
- Attend meetings and conferences and participate in other activities to promote professional growth.
