Speech Language Pathologist - Outpatient

About the Role

Plan and administer speech-language pathology evaluations and implement appropriate treatment. Document provision of care, utilize support staff, and participate in special projects as designated.

Responsibilities

• Independently maintain a clinical caseload in a designated clinical cluster area.
• Provide evidence-based evaluation and treatment to diverse, medically complex patient populations.
• Deliver quality service techniques responsive to patient’s age, social, cultural, educational, and vocational background.
• Provide written and/or verbal education on communication and/or swallowing disorders to patients, families, and professionals.
• Complete required documentation accurately and within designated time frames, including report writing, billing, and professional education.
• Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team and with department colleagues to promote best patient care standards.
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives within assigned work area.
• Remain current in clinical practice through lectures, literature, and educational opportunities.
• Organize daily schedule to prioritize responsibilities without negative impact on patient care or productivity.
• Maintain confidentiality pertaining to patient care and division policies.
• Keep Assistant Manager of Rehabilitative Services informed of activities, problems, and accomplishments.
• Function in a self-directed manner, taking ownership and accountability for actions and results.
• Maintain professional demeanor and ensure quality care in all interactions.
• Respond promptly to communication (e.g., email, pages, phone messages).
• Use technology (e.g., computer skills) to meet job requirements.
• Maintain productivity standards and complete clinical competencies.
• Perform duties, tasks, or assignments as directed to support department goals.
• Adhere to all performance expectations, division policies, and clinical practice guidelines.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university program.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology issued by ASHA.
• NC License in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
• Temporary License in Speech-Language Pathology (if applicable) issued by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous medical setting experience with adults preferred, though other relevant clinical experience is considered.
• Preferred areas of expertise: Cognitive-communication disorders, dysphagia, augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Skills

• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the public.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
