Speech-Language Pathologist (Leave of Absence)

Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats students

This position assesses the needs of students with speech or language disorders and matches their needs with programs available through the educational system.

Meets with students regularly according to the treatment program schedule, evaluates, and maintains records of students' progress.

Reports progress to administrators, teachers, and special education teams and meets with them on a regular basis to discuss their evaluations of students' skills as demonstrated in class performance and social interaction with other students.

Reports progress to guardians and meets with them regularly; suggests activities guardians can do with their child to assist and supplement the student's speech therapy program; attempts to add to their understanding of the program and answers questions and addresses concerns they may have about it.

Repeats evaluations on a regular basis to measure progress according to professional guidelines.

Talks with students to determine their feelings about the program and their progress or any frustrations they may feel about the therapy.

Supervise students

Establishes and implements small group management structure and rules that ensure academic engagement and the physical and mental safety of all students;

Ensures safety and security standards for children, staff, and visitors of the school;

Supervises all students throughout school grounds and on educational trips as necessary.

Maintain paperwork and knowledge

Maintains required paperwork for individual student files, attendance and incident reports, and other necessary records.

Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in speech-language pathology.

Recognizes and supports diversity and equity in support of school and district initiatives.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in related subject area;
• Appropriate state license or certification;
• Speech Language Pathologist Endorsement are required.
• At least two years of speech pathology work experience in a school setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
