The Speech and Language Therapy Paraprofessional position is a temporary role for the 2026-27 School Year within the Caesar Rodney School District. The position is district-wide, with a specific location to be determined.

About the role

This role supports the provision of speech therapy to students within the district, working under the guidance of a credentialed Speech/Language Pathologist/Therapist as outlined in Delaware Administrative Code (Title 24).

Qualifications

  • Individuals holding or eligible for an Instructional Paraeducator Permit are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience working with students is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Ability to implement pre-developed plans as directed.
  • To qualify for the Instructional Paraeducator permit, candidates must meet one of the following options:
    • Option 1: Hold a high school diploma or recognized equivalent AND meet testing requirements by either earning a qualifying score of 459 on the ParaPro Assessment (1755) (available through August 31, 2026), or achieving scores of 332 on ParaPathways: Reading and Writing (5758) and 334 on ParaPathways: Mathematics (5759).
    • Option 2: Hold an associate degree or complete a minimum of 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited institution, with a grade of "C" or better in each course (final approval of accepted credits is determined by the Delaware Department of Education).

Responsibilities

  • Aid in providing student direct speech therapy services according to Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and treatment plans developed by the credentialed Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP).
  • Assist with data collection on progress toward meeting established IEP goals and treatment objectives as directed by tele-therapist.
  • Aid the tele-therapist in the provision of speech therapy services as needed.
  • Act as an on-site facilitator during tele-therapy sessions as needed.
  • Prepare therapy materials and equipment for use in the classroom including therapy activities such as picture cards, worksheets, and audio equipment.
  • Assist the SLP during assessments.
  • Conduct speech-language screenings without interpretation, as directed by the SLP.
  • Assists in behavior management through the use of positive reinforcement strategies and other appropriate techniques.
  • Communicate with on-site personnel regarding any concerns or needs for the tele-therapy program.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services.

Pay

SALARY: Based on experience and degree, in accordance with the State of Delaware and local salary schedules.

  • Provide official transcripts, if applicable, updated resume, and three (3) letters of recommendation.
  • All persons employed by the Caesar Rodney School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
