FLSA Status: Salaried-Exempt • Compensation: $39,500–$47,750

About the Role

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) assists the Speech Language Pathologist in providing speech and language services to students in a charter school setting. The SLPA will be assigned to two schools co-located on one campus—one elementary and one secondary. Professional roles and activities include clinical/educational services, direct treatment, screenings, consultation, collaboration, data collection, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct prevention and pre-referral education to teachers and staff
  • Complete screenings for students who may need speech therapy without interpretation, using screening protocols specified by the supervising SLP
  • Consult with teachers, school staff, and parents as needed
  • Provide direct treatment identified by the supervising SLP by following written individualized education treatment plans
  • Offer intervention strategies to staff for carry-over of students’ speech and language goals and objectives
  • Complete required daily documentation
  • Assist the SLP in the collection and tallying of data for assessment purposes without interpretation of data
  • Attend parent conferences and IEP meetings with permission from the supervising SLP and written documentation from the SLP (no interpretation of data or changes to treatment plans without SLP input)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising SLP

An SLPA may NOT write formal screening, diagnostic, progress, or discharge notes, nor perform any task without the approval of the supervising SLP.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred from an accredited institution
  • Completion of a certified training program for Speech Language Pathology Assistant
  • Valid Speech Language Pathology Assistant license from the Arizona Department of Health Services
  • Preferred 1+ years of experience in a school setting
  • Proficient in the use of technology
  • Commitment to and love for the liberal arts
  • U.S. work authorization required (OPT/CPT candidates accepted)
  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance

Skills

  • Adhere to safety practices and experience working with school-aged children
  • Perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
  • Read manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and present information to others
  • Analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions
  • Knowledge of pertinent codes, policies, regulations, and laws
  • Schedule activities, collate data, and use basic job-related equipment
  • Work independently with others in varied circumstances, handle specific job-related data, and operate equipment using defined methods
  • Work with a diverse range of individuals and groups
  • Communicate effectively with diverse groups, adhere to safety practices, and meet deadlines

Physical Requirements

  • Standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching
  • May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds
