SPED Teacher - Science Focus

About the role

Clifford Academy, a Massachusetts Chapter 766 Special Education School, provides a year-round engaging and comprehensive program focused on education, career development, recreation/fitness, and an individualized therapeutic approach. As a Licensed SPED Teacher (Science focused), you will participate in the implementation of individualized educational programs for special needs students at varying academic levels, behavioral management, crisis intervention, multi-disciplinary treatment team activities, and preparation of related reports and documentation, including Individual Education Plans.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing individualized educational programs, including curriculum and specific lesson plans aligned with agency and facility guidelines.
• Research and collect educational resource materials and provide individualized academic instruction to students of wide-ranging academic performance.
• Implement behavioral management programs within the classroom, maintaining current knowledge of the facility’s behavior management principles, including TCI training.
• Participate in crisis intervention, use of restraints when required, processing with students during incidents, and teaching/modeling social and emotional skills.
• Serve as a member of student/client multi-disciplinary teams, providing progress updates and receiving guidance to facilitate treatment, behavioral, and educational goals.
• Maintain liaison with collateral staff and serve as a student advocate.
• Ensure a safe, orderly, and neat classroom environment.
• Provide monitoring and coverage as needed (e.g., lunch, recess, halls, field trips).
• May serve on department, facility, or agency committees.
• Communicate with and involve families in the educational program of each student, assisting in family activities as appropriate.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with a focus in science (required).
• Massachusetts Educator Licensure (required).
• Master’s Degree in Education or a related field (preferred).
• Special Education license (desired).
• Previous experience working in education and/or with the program’s specific population (highly desirable).
• Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer, with the ability to learn new software applications.

Pay

The pay range represents the company’s good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be based on relevant experience, education, skills, and internal equity. Candidates with less directly related experience may be placed toward the lower end of the range, while those with extensive or specialized experience may be placed toward the higher end. Market conditions and budget considerations may also influence final pay decisions.
