Position Summary

Aid special education teachers in providing instructional support to students with disabilities. Assist in classroom programs, behavior management, and instructional activities. Provide assistance with assignments and work under the supervision of the principal and special education teacher.

Qualifications

  • Education/Certification: Educational Aide certification required (must be obtained soon after employment).

  • Minimum Requirements: 48 hours of college credit, pass all sections of the THEA, Associate’s academic degree, Bachelor’s degree preferred, Teacher Certification preferred.

  • Experience: 6+ months of experience in public or charter schools, experience working with students with disabilities preferred.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Passion for students, especially those with disabilities; strong communication and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks; confidentiality and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Prepare instructional materials and assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom.

  • Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of materials and equipment.

  • Keep administrative records and prepare required reports.

  • Implement ARD identified accommodations and modifications as directed by the special education teacher.

  • Assist in instructional activities for individual students or small groups.

  • Learn to work with students’ individual needs and help supervise special education students throughout the school day.

  • Maintain confidentiality and report on special education student progress/needs.

  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
