SPED Paraprofessional
Position Summary
Aid special education teachers in providing educational support to students with disabilities. Assist in classroom programs, behavior management, and instructional activities. Provide assistance with assignments and work under the supervision of the principal and special education teacher.
Qualifications
Education/Certification: Educational Aide certification required (must be obtained soon after employment)
One of the following minimum requirements:
- 48 hours of college credit
- Pass all sections of the THEA
- Associate’s academic degree or equivalent from an accredited College
- Bachelor’s degree from a University (preferred)
- Teacher Certification (preferred)
Experience: 6+ months of experience working in a Public or Charter school (preferred), experience working with students with disabilities (preferred), related experience or training (preferred)
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities (KSAs)
Passion for students, especially those with disabilities
Patience and ability to work interactively with students, especially those with disabilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills to implement multiple and diverse programs
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships
Responsibilities And Duties
Aid the teacher in preparing instructional materials
Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly classroom
Assist with inventory, care, and maintenance of materials and equipment
Aid the teacher in keeping administrative records and preparing required reports
Assist the teacher in implementing ARD identified accommodations/modifications
Conduct instructional activities as directed by the special education teacher for individual students or small groups of students
Assume responsibility for learning how to work with student's individual needs
Supervise special education students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom; this may include some campus duties
Maintain confidentiality regarding special education student progress/needs
Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
Perform special projects, during and after normal business hours, and other duties as assigned
