About the role
The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, pre-sort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting.
Responsibilities
- A-station, pre-sort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory
- Imaging/microfilming
- Centrifugation and aliquoting
- Confidence, accuracy, and timely performance of all tasks
- Good organization skills and understanding of specimen types related to tests ordered by clients
- Great flexibility and adaptability to changing demands from customers
- Exposure to various demands from customers
- Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits
- Effective communication with all levels of staff
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills with a preference for knowledge of laboratory testing and/or specimen processing
- Previous laboratory experience preferred
- Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory
- Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus
- Previous experience in a production environment preferred
- Standing, lifting, and moving for the majority of the shift
- Able to sit or stand for long periods
- Data entry capabilities with 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
- Adherence to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures
- Work area cleanliness and maintaining a positive work environment
- Strong interpersonal skills fostering a positive environment
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to change
- Ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change daily
Qualifications
- HS diploma or equivalent
- Basic understanding of computers
- Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or specimen processing
- Previous laboratory experience
