About the role

The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, pre-sort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting.

Responsibilities

  • A-station, pre-sort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory
  • Imaging/microfilming
  • Centrifugation and aliquoting
  • Confidence, accuracy, and timely performance of all tasks
  • Good organization skills and understanding of specimen types related to tests ordered by clients
  • Great flexibility and adaptability to changing demands from customers
  • Exposure to various demands from customers
  • Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits
  • Effective communication with all levels of staff

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills with a preference for knowledge of laboratory testing and/or specimen processing
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred
  • Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory
  • Previous hospital laboratory experience is a plus
  • Previous experience in a production environment preferred
  • Standing, lifting, and moving for the majority of the shift
  • Able to sit or stand for long periods
  • Data entry capabilities with 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
  • Adherence to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures
  • Work area cleanliness and maintaining a positive work environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills fostering a positive environment
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to change
  • Ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change daily

Qualifications
