About the role

The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department. This critical role ensures quality and customer satisfaction through accurate, timely handling of specimens. The position operates in a fast-paced, production-oriented biohazard environment with daily changes and diverse customer demands. Strong organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to learn specimen types related to test orders are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Perform A-station, pre-sort, pickup, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
  • Conduct imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting of specimens.
  • Maintain accuracy and timeliness in all functions to uphold quality standards.
  • Adapt to daily changes in compliance regulations and test ordering requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with staff at all levels and foster a positive work environment.
  • Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies, ensuring a clean and organized workspace.
  • Meet productivity and departmental completion time standards.
  • Practice good safety habits in a biohazard environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills; knowledge of laboratory testing or specimen processing preferred.
  • Previous laboratory experience, medical background (including medical terminology), or hospital laboratory experience is a plus.
  • Experience in a production environment preferred.
  • Ability to stand, lift, and move for the majority of the shift; comfortable sitting or standing for long periods.
  • Data entry proficiency with a minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility to adapt to change.
  • Ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8:00 PM to 4:30 AM.
