Specialty Services Instructor - Seasonal

Important Duties

Develops and delivers interpretive and recreation programs and events.

Works collaboratively with other staff members to design and implement new programs that serve the community.

Implements recreation classes that engage and educate participants by providing instruction, supervision and skill set.

Provides and outlines lesson plans and descriptions for proposed classes and programs.

Ensures an inviting, positive, and safe environment.

Communicates effectively with program coordinator and class participants.

Maintains communication with class participants.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in skill area or specialized education and training in skill.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Must hold a valid certification in discipline/field.
  • Must be able to work daytime and evenings.
  • Must have a valid CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Must be able to pass FBI and MD background check.
  • Ability to communicate in another language a plus.

Supplemental Information

  • May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.

Working Conditions

  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Hours per week is dependent on instructor availability.
  • Classes may be offered on a quarterly basis and generally scheduled up to four months in advance.
  • Primarily working outside in a park setting or inside a Park Activity Building.
  • May be exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions and seasonal temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, stretch, lift, carry, and move/lift objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to arrive to classes at least fifteen minutes before scheduled class time.
  • Responsible for opening and closing of indoor venues.
