About the role
This is a field-based position covering Charlottesville, Richmond, Harrisonburg, and Farmville, Virginia. Candidates should live within a reasonable distance of the primary city. The role level will be determined based on experience.
Responsibilities
- Execute brand strategy and tactics in the field to drive sales performance, effectively manage the assigned territory and targeted accounts, and build strong customer relationships.
- Maximize short- and long-term sales performance by focusing on customer needs and placing the patient at the center of all efforts, while adhering to AbbVie’s business code of conduct, policies, and applicable laws.
- Deliver sales performance, brand KPIs, financial targets, and marketing objectives to meet or exceed goals.
- Create pre-call plan objectives and execute post-call evaluations to continuously improve sales performance.
- Effectively handle objections, misunderstandings, and concerns, consistently gaining logical and reasonable calls to action to close every sales call.
- Proactively address customer needs, expectations, and challenges to build trusted relationships and achieve win-win agreements.
- Develop and execute a call plan that achieves set call metrics and optimizes coverage and frequency to key customers, maximizing access and sales opportunities.
- Continuously build understanding of customer needs, territory market landscape, competitors, market segments/dynamics, accounts, disease, product, clinical, and sales expertise.
- Share market intelligence with the in-field team, brand team, and sales manager to align efforts, anticipate environmental changes, and optimize brand strategy execution.
- Differentiate AbbVie’s value proposition with assigned healthcare providers and identify, develop, and maintain disease state experts and speakers/advocates to maximize brand performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy, or a business-related field preferred. Relevant and equivalent industry experience may substitute for the degree.
- In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, at least five (5) years of relevant industry experience is required, with three (3) or more years preferred in the pharmaceutical, health, or science industry. A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Demonstrated in-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge, recognized as an expert resource by relevant stakeholders.
- Strong business acumen and proficient use of business tools; strategic and critical thinking capabilities.
- Ability to proactively identify customer style/behavior and adapt selling approaches accordingly.
- Understands and leverages findings to develop sales strategies and offers innovative ideas to maximize business opportunities.
- Provides impactful ideas for the larger organization and anticipates and responds to changes.
- Operates effectively in a matrix environment, influencing others and serving as a credible role model among peers.
- Builds collaborative partnerships with district colleagues and matrix teams.
- Leads by example, displaying positive behaviors and peer coaching through changing and challenging environments.
- Documented success in leadership and support roles of increased responsibility at the district, region, or organizational levels.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test while meeting safe driving requirements.
- Ability to drive a personal auto, company car/truck, or powered material handling equipment.
- Must satisfy all applicable healthcare industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements, including but not limited to background checks, drug screens, proof of immunization/vaccination, and fingerprinting.
- Must be in good standing and/or eligible to obtain HCIR credentials for entry into facilities in the assigned territory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven track record of success in sales performance within respective therapeutic areas.
- Commercial pharmaceutical industry experience, such as physician/account-based selling, training, managed healthcare, or marketing.
- English language proficiency (verbal and written) for all non-English speaking countries.
