About the role

Execute brand strategy and tactics in the field, drive sales performance, manage an assigned territory and targeted accounts, build strong customer relationships, and solve customer needs to maximize short- and long-term sales while placing the patient at the center of all efforts. Operate within AbbVie’s business code of conduct, policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver sales performance, brand KPIs, financial targets, and marketing objectives to meet or exceed goals.
  • Create pre-call plans using SMART objectives and execute post-call evaluations to continuously improve sales performance.
  • Effectively handle objections, misunderstandings, and concerns; consistently gain logical and reasonable calls to action to close every sales call.
  • Proactively and continuously serve customer needs, expectations, and challenges to build trusted customer relationships and achieve win-win agreements.
  • Develop and execute a call plan that achieves set call metrics and optimizes coverage and frequency to key customers to maximize access and sales opportunities.
  • Continuously build understanding of customer needs, territory market landscape, competitors, market segments/dynamics, accounts, disease, product, clinical, and sales expertise. Share market intelligence with the in-field team, brand team, and sales manager to align, anticipate environmental changes, and optimize brand strategy execution.
  • Differentiate AbbVie’s value proposition with assigned health providers and identify, develop, and maintain disease state experts and speakers/advocates to maximize brand performance.

Requirements

  • This role is field-based; candidates should live within a reasonable distance from the primary city. Territory includes Albany, White Plains, New York, and the state of Vermont.
  • Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy, or a business-related field preferred. Relevant and equivalent industry experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree with at least five (5) years of experience, including three (3) or more years within the pharmaceutical, health, or science industry. A high school diploma or GED is required if no degree.
  • Proactively identify customer style/behavior and adapt all aspects of the selling approach quickly.
  • Proven track record of success in selling and solid presentation skills. Offers innovative ideas and solutions to maximize business opportunities and address challenges.
  • Demonstrates in-depth scientific, therapeutic, product, and competitive knowledge; recognized as an expert resource by all relevant stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen and proficient use of business tools; possesses strategic and critical thinking capabilities. Operates effectively in a matrix environment.
  • Influences others and is viewed as a credible, respected role model and resource among peers. Builds collaborative partnerships with district colleagues and matrix teams.
  • Leads by example; consistently displays positive behaviors and peer coaching through changing and challenging environments.
  • Documented success in leadership and support roles of increased responsibility at the district, region, and/or organizational levels.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening test and meet safe driving requirements.
  • Ability to travel adequately to cover territory, including overnight attendance at scheduled training events and sales meetings.
  • An essential requirement is satisfying all applicable health care industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements (e.g., background checks, drug screens, proof of immunization/vaccination, fingerprinting, and specific state/city licenses) to gain and maintain entry into facilities in the assigned territory. You are responsible for ensuring compliance with these requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of success in sales performance within respective therapeutic areas.
  • Commercial pharmaceutical industry experience such as physician/account-based selling, training, managed health care, or marketing.
  • English language proficiency (verbal and written) for all non-English speaking countries.
