Specialty Pharmacy Tech - Liaison

About the role

The Specialty Pharmacy Technician-Liaison works alongside specialty clinicians to encourage patients to utilize Care New England (CNE) Pharmacy to fully benefit from its superior patient care services. They collaborate with the clinic staff to complete prior authorizations and obtain financial assistance for patients. They determine whether a patient is eligible to fill their prescriptions at the CNE Specialty Pharmacy and direct prescriptions to the pharmacy whenever possible.

Responsibilities

  • Provides integrated support to patients and pharmacists by providing a "hands-on" approach to total quality patient care.
  • Encourages patients of specialty clinics to utilize pharmacy to fully benefit from its superior patient care services.
  • Seamlessly integrates with the clinic team (doctors, nurses, staff, etc.) to successfully serve patients both face-to-face and over the phone.
  • Educates prospective pharmacy patients on how CNE Specialty Pharmacy serves patients and improves their overall care.
  • Supports outpatient retail and specialty prescription medication needs.
  • Grows the specialty pharmacy patient population.
  • Ensures that patients remain on track with medication regimens through outbound therapy/medication adherence check-ups and securing refill prescriptions.
  • Helps develop new processes to ensure smooth operations and patient care.
  • Identifies medications requiring special storage and/or handling, such as hazardous medications and/or refrigerated medication.
  • Identifies the necessary supplies for select medications, such as sharps containers, needles/syringes, alcohol swabs, and Band-Aids.
  • Answers, resolves, and triages inbound inquiries.
  • Resolves insurance-related issues, including prior authorizations (PAs), and assists patients with various forms of financial assistance.
  • Ensures appropriate documentation in all required systems and tracking mechanisms.
  • Manages, organizes, and updates relevant data using database applications.
  • Actively participates in process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains quality levels and standards as they relate to providing direct and indirect patient care.
  • Protects the organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Delivers specialty prescriptions to patients’ homes, when necessary.
  • Performs other related duties to support departmental goals, including covering on-bench shifts as necessary.

Requirements

  • High School or GED Required.
  • Minimum 1 to 3 Years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician; 5+ years of experience preferred.
  • Registered in the state of Rhode Island as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • National certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Knowledge of specialty pharmacy reimbursement: state, federal and commercial.
  • Highly computer proficient (knowledge of EPIC, CoverMyMeds, McKesson, INMAR systems a plus).
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems.
  • Ability to maintain record keeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze information.
  • Good judgment and strong verbal communications, including strong phone skills.
  • Highly productive and quality focused.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with branch departments.
