About the role

The Developmental Medicine and Psychiatry Specialty Nurse supports the Psychiatry and Developmental Medicine team at Nemours.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress and revises the interdisciplinary plan of care based on patient needs.
  • Identifies patient/family needs for further resources and initiates appropriate teaching and/or referrals.
  • Participates in responding to patient phone calls, explaining treatment regimens after consulting with physicians, and sharing clinical knowledge with the health care team.
  • Acts as a liaison between families and members of the health care team.
  • Utilizes specialized body of knowledge and technical skills in nursing practice related to subspecialty in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy, and protocol.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages, neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, and adults.
  • Recognizes and identifies own learning needs and responsibility for continual development, striving to increase knowledge and set goals for professional growth.
  • Participates in the development of standards of care for the specialty patient population and participates in departmental and hospital programs for Quality/Process Assessment and Improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required
  • Active Delaware (or compact state) Registered Nurse Licensure Required
  • Additional state licensure may be required as determined
  • Three years of related clinical experience in Developmental Pediatrics preferred but not necessary
  • Prior pediatric nursing experience necessary
  • Specialty Nurse hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm

Qualifications

Developmental Pediatric experience preferred but not necessary.

Skills

Knowledge of growth and development, pathophysiology, and family dynamics.
