Specialty Doctor in Transplant Surgery - 258382 PM

About the role

This permanent, full-time (40 hours per week) post based at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh is suitable for an ST7/8 or equivalent specialty registrar or immediate post-CCT fellow who wishes to gain experience in transplant surgery and multi-organ transplantation.

Experience provided

• Liver, pancreas and renal transplantation
• Live donor kidney donation
• Deceased donor organ donation (including novel organ perfusion technologies)
• Open and laparoscopic management of complex HPB conditions, benign and malignant

Responsibilities

• Senior role in the multi-organ retrieval team (as an independent NRP surgeon after a period of training and mentorship if required)
• Transplantation (implant) on call
• Elective sessions at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

Requirements

• Full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council (GMC)
• Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a less than full-time or flexible basis), at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme or specialty registrar locum appointment for training (LAT)
• Or equivalent training, experience or competencies, either in the UK or overseas
• Significant previous training in Transplant and/or HPB surgery
• Completed general surgical training

Qualifications

• ST7/8 or equivalent specialty registrar level
• Immediate post-CCT fellow status

Support available

• Significant support for CESR/Portfolio Pathway application if required
• The transplant unit has supported three successful CESR/Portfolio pathway applications over the last 2 years, with all three candidates subsequently appointed to substantive consultant transplant surgeon positions in UK centres
