About the role
The Specialty Cheese & Deli Manager is responsible for the overall leadership and success of the Specialty Cheese & Deli department at Plum Market. This role oversees purchasing, production, merchandising, inventory control, and Team Member development across a variety of specialty cheeses, charcuterie, sliced meats, prepared deli items, and accompaniments.
Responsibilities
- Ensure an exceptional retail Customer experience through a full, fresh, and visually appealing department while maintaining margin, labor, and operational goals.
- Lead by example and foster a culture of food knowledge, hospitality, and continuous improvement.
- Purchase and manage inventory with accuracy and efficiency, ensuring appropriate stock levels, proper rotation, and minimal shrink.
- Train, coach, and schedule Team Members to maintain department standards and provide knowledgeable, friendly Guest Service.
- Mercandise seasonal and promotional displays with creativity and consistency.
- Monitor sales trends and margin performance; respond with strategic adjustments to drive profitability and category growth.
- Collaborate with Store Leadership and Support Team on product selections, vendor relationships, and promotional planning.
- Uphold food safety, sanitation, and labeling compliance across all operations.
- Serve as the department’s subject matter expert in cheese, charcuterie, and deli products, supporting team education and Guest engagement.
- Foster a professional and inclusive team environment where all voices are heard and valued.
- Ensure all departmental tasks, logs, and systems are kept up-to-date and aligned with Plum Market’s operating standards.
Requirements
- Leadership experience in specialty food, cheese, or deli departments.
- Deep knowledge of specialty cheeses, cured meats, and accompanying products.
- Ability to manage purchasing, inventory, labor, and department financials.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 4 hours without a break – we work on the floor, and alongside our team.
- Ability to bend and stoop to grasp objects, climb ladders, lift loads up to 50 lbs. unassisted, and push/pull carts weighing up to 100 lbs. unassisted.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in a similar role preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety and quality assurance practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
