Specialized Instructor - Mid

About the Role

A Specialized Instructor will be highly skilled, with the ability and capacity to teach students a given specialty through interactive, hands-on enrichment lessons.

Responsibilities

• Develop and facilitate a full syllabus and lesson plans for enrichment activities approved by the Site Coordinator, meeting program and student needs.
• Manage student sign-in/out, complete incident reports, and follow all program compliance requirements.
• Instruct scheduled enrichment time blocks while maintaining minimum student-instructor ratios per program needs and grant requirements.
• Market and advertise the enrichment program through activity showcases, flyers, and on-campus recruitment to generate participant interest.
• Demonstrate leadership and commitment to educating and empowering youth to reach their full potential.
• Use proper safety protocols for indoor and outdoor settings, clearly defining safety expectations.
• Apply age-appropriate classroom and behavior management skills, including setting expectations, rewards, discipline, and incentives.
• Interact with students in an age-appropriate manner, fostering positive relationships and managing behavior effectively.
• Participate in training, professional development, and staff meetings; implement feedback and best practices.
• Communicate verbally and in writing to share critical program information.
• Use critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions aligned with training and youth program best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Note: Programs may be canceled or terminated at any time due to poor quality, low attendance, inappropriate behavior, or failure to submit attendance sheets daily. Specialized Instructors may not sell or market private services/products to students or communicate privately with them.

Requirements

• Availability to work set school programming hours, including early dismissal days and weekends as assigned.
• Experience facilitating specialized curriculum to students.
• Experience working in school settings, after-school programs, or youth recreational facilities.
• Experience working with ethnically and culturally diverse communities.
• 48+ college units completed or passing the CAPE exam.
• TB test clearance and Live Scan (background check).
• For LAUSD placements: Obtain LAUSD SSO and complete Risk Management Training (RMT).
• Current CPR certification (adult, child, and infant).
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

To qualify for higher levels (II, III), certifications and teacher credentials must be on file with Human Resources at the time of application.

Physical Demands

• Stand, walk, stoop, or kneel for the duration of the shift; occasional sitting may be required.
• Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
