About the role
The Wellness Specialist supports City’s employee wellness programs, services, and wellbeing initiatives. This is an entry-level position that works closely with city staff to promote participation, provide wellbeing information and education, and support ongoing participation in wellbeing initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of wellness programs for City employees based on identified needs
- Supports and implements a Wellness marketing plan which actively recruits participants in collaboration with the Wellness Manager
- Collaborates with the Wellness Manager and team to identify health education and wellness goals that align with and enhance Benefits Program objectives and organizational strategies
- Coincides with the Wellness Manager and team to develop, facilitate and evaluate educational programs and materials
- Provides lifestyle change education, coaching, and resources to support employees
- Maintain confidential and accurate health records for all participants
- Develop content for and provide Wellness briefings for work groups as requested
- Work with the Wellness Manager and team to develop, facilitate and evaluate educational programs and materials
- Provide opportunities for health risk assessment, fitness testing, personalized instruction, ongoing coaching, and education
- Maintains Fitness Facilities, evaluates equipment needs and plans for equipment replacement schedule
- Instructs group exercise classes, develops exercise prescriptions, educates on proper use of equipment with an eye on safety
- Work with purchasing to procure wellness services and coordinate logistics for outside vendors (i.e. massage therapists, group ex instructors)
- Serve as a vital member of the City Safety and Wellness Team and seek to engage other members of the team in a positive manner and in support of the team goals and objectives
Requirements
- Minimum: College degree or equivalent work experience
- Preferred: Organizational wellness setting with wellness coaching, personal training, athletic training, or physical therapy assisting preferred
- Certifications/Licenses/Specialized Training: CPR Certification. American Council on Exercise, American College of Sports Medicine Personal Training Certification, National Sports and Conditioning Certification or ability to obtain within first year of employment
Qualifications
- Knowledge of wellbeing trends and ability to bring new insights into the workplace to promote health, safety and wellness
- Knowledge of lifestyle and behavior change theories to design interventions and programs that address lifestyle change for better health outcomes
- Critical thinking and independent decision making skills
- Knowledge of exercise and cardiovascular equipment and ability to provide instruction on proper and safe equipment use
- Knowledge and familiarity with computerized fitness screening and related software; ability to use spreadsheet, presentation and word processing software
- Strong leadership and motivational skills, with ability to communicate effectively with management and employees
- Strong public speaking skills
- Interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal confidentially and effectively with employees at all levels
- Attention to detail
- Strong planning and project management skills
