About the role
The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG) within the College of Science at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) seeks a Specialist, Geologic Information position. The NBMG serves as the state geological survey for Nevada, focusing on obtaining, maintaining, and disseminating geologic information to promote public safety and sustainable development.
Responsibilities
- Manage and curate physical inventory in the GBSSRL, a unique collection of Nevada-related data and physical samples.
- Coordinate with government and private agencies to accession and curate physical specimens, historic documents, maps, and other data.
- Create and catalogue detailed and high-quality metadata for each item in the GBSSRL’s many data collections.
- Collaborate with NBMG employees and state agencies to conduct research, aggregate data, and write technical reports and bulletins.
- Manage and engage in outreach activities to educate user groups on the availability of physical and digital datasets within the GBSSRL.
- Provide customer service support for the GBSSRL.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience.
- Related work experience in Geology, Geoinformatics, Geography, Library Science, Archival Studies, Museum Curation, or a related field.
- Experience in physical and digital data preservation, and experience in research and technical writing or related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- GIS / geospatial dataset familiarity preferred but not required.

Compensation
Grade: Administrative Faculty B
