About the Role

This position is part of the Maintenance Department at the Louisiana Integrated Polyethylene JV in Westlake, LA. The Electrical Specialist will provide field technical support to Maintenance Technicians, ensuring they have the necessary resources for daily activities. Responsibilities include planning and executing large-scale energy isolation procedures, coordinating with contractors for electrical testing and inspection, and supporting advanced troubleshooting of complex electrical control strategies. The role also involves providing technical support to Operations, Electrical Engineers, Maintenance, HSE, Capital Projects, and Turnaround teams to achieve site strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Tracks bad actors and develops mitigation plans.
  • Reviews area notifications for technical validation.
  • Works with the Electrical Maintenance and Reliability team to manage preventive maintenance (PMs) and procedure creation for existing and new electrical systems.
  • Reviews completed PMs for accuracy and verifies no immediate further action is required.
  • Performs testing of electrical distribution equipment such as transformers, breakers, MCCs, switchgear, etc.
  • Provides data and feedback to Electrical Engineers to drive reliability improvements.
  • Participates in investigation teams and unit PHAs as required.
  • Utilizes blueprints, hand tools, and test equipment to troubleshoot and maintain electrical equipment (e.g., relays, transformers, CTs, PTs, breakers, starters, VFDs).
  • Acts as a technical resource for Unit Engineers, Operations, and HSE on critical systems.
  • Works with Turnaround and Capital Project organizations to develop scope, participate in detailed design, and testing phases of projects.
  • Secures and manages electronic copies of programs for electrical test equipment, variable speed drives, PMS systems, and protection relays.
  • Develops strategies to upgrade electrical equipment to meet technological needs.
  • Acts as a resource for crafts on complex jobs and provides required documentation.
  • Provides instruction during technician training sessions.
  • Assists Electrical Reliability with BOMs for electrical equipment in SAP.
  • Shepherds "critical" motors through the repair process at outside shops.
  • Performs random QA/QC audits on motor repair shops.

Requirements

  • Ability to interact with different plant groups across multiple disciplines.
  • Advanced knowledge of plant operations and ability to apply this knowledge to improve electrical system reliability.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to create, read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and schematics.
  • Advanced knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Advanced knowledge of NFPA-70E requirements for electrical safety.
  • Understanding of high-voltage equipment operation and testing, including interpretation of test results.
  • Advanced skills to maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems from 230KV to 125VDC.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or GED equivalent).
  • Completion of a relevant recognized program (e.g., NETA Electrical Level 2, NCCER, Associate Degree in Electrical).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in Relay Protection Scheme/Electrical Testing/Troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in English; additional language preferred.
