Specialist, EL Instructional Practices - 223 Day

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized support and expertise to schools and teachers to ensure academic achievement and accelerated language development for all English learners (ELs).
• Knowledgeable in research-based instructional strategies, second language acquisition, WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards, instructional frameworks, and sheltered instruction approaches.
• Experience in the practical application of EL appropriate instructional strategies resulting in student academic performance.
• Professional developer, teacher mentor, and coach for teaching and administrative staff to support implementation of effective planning and delivery at assigned schools.
• Develops, creates, and provides division-wide professional learning to a variety of audiences that enhance and improve EL instructional practices across all schools and offices.
• Provides job-embedded support and professional development on effective instructional planning and delivery of content to ELs, while simultaneously developing English proficiency by addressing the listening, speaking, reading, and writing language domains as a part of the WIDA ELD Standards adopted by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Provides professional development and support on co-teaching techniques for any EL, Special Education, and content teachers who will be coteaching; and how to differentiate instruction to ensure that EL-readiness levels, interests, and learning profiles are addressed in both sheltered pull-out and inclusive settings.
• Aids teachers in developing academic literacy, instructing academic vocabulary aligned with the core content curriculum, implementing strategies for reading development and comprehension, and implementing formative and summative assessments within the context of standards-based instruction.
• Assists in incorporating requirements from the Every Student Succeeds Act Title III Part A, Equal Education Opportunities Act, the Division Strategic Plan, and school and teacher goals to ensure that all English learners achieve in Prince William County Public Schools.
