Special Security Representative (SSR)

About the role

We are seeking a Special Security Representative (SSR) to provide APL and its customers with expert special and compartmented security support in a dynamic R&D environment. As an SSR, you will address complex security challenges and collaborate across teams to ensure compliance and operational security.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Special Security Representative on multiple Sensitive Compartmented Programs, providing expertise in all security functions in accordance with 32 CFR 117 (NISPOM), Intelligence Community Directives, SEADs, and other applicable policies and regulations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Information Assurance, Security, Program Managers, Contracts Managers, and Cost Account Managers.
• Build and maintain relationships with government security counterparts.
• Perform all aspects of the SCI Personnel Security Program, including validation of SCI access, processing eligibility, polygraph requests, nomination interviews, investigative requests, security briefings, and obtaining signed Non-Disclosure Agreements.
• Provide security guidance for program development and operations, ensuring compliance with government and company regulations. Develop, obtain approval for, and implement security policies and procedures, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Participate in self-inspections and government compliance inspections.
• Ensure information systems and networks comply with contract requirements by working closely with assigned ISSM/ISSO. Manage accreditations, Co-Use Agreements (CUA), Joint-Use Agreements (JUA), and MOUs/MOAs.
• Oversee facility security administration, documentation, and management to adhere to contractual guidance for multiple programs and facilities.
• Advise leadership on security risks and tradeoffs impacting project execution.
• Provide subject matter expertise to Program Managers on Security Classification Guides (SCGs), including accurate interpretation, application, and compliance.
• Identify and resolve security challenges, including legal, regulatory, and compliance concerns.
• Perform physical security responsibilities for multiple facilities.
• Lead government security inspections and advise internal teams on preparation and outcomes.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in Business, Information Systems, or a security-related field. Equivalent experience in Business, IT, or security may be substituted.
• 4+ years of relevant security experience (e.g., CPSO/CSSO/SSR/PSR and/or DoD Intel) with the ability to execute security principles and government special security regulations (e.g., OPSEC, COMSEC, DCID, NISPOM, DoD Manual 5205.07, ICD 704/705, JSIG, or RMF).
• Experience developing and executing security policy, plans, and procedures.
• Experience utilizing SIMS or other security management tools, as well as DISS and/or Scattered Castles or other classified databases.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels.
• Experience with Compartmented Access Programs (CAP) and/or Special Access Programs (SAP).
• Active TS/SCI level security clearance. U.S. citizenship is required for eligibility.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business, Information Systems, or a relevant field.
• Direct experience working as a Special Security Representative/Officer.
• Thorough understanding of DoD organizational structures.
• Experience navigating challenges in special secure facilities governed by US Titles 10 & 50 authorities.
• Experience in organizations with reporting responsibilities to multiple sponsors/authorities.
• Knowledge of information systems.

Pay

Annual salary range: $62,900 – $180,300. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, experience, market conditions, education, and skill level. Additional compensation may include bonuses, sign-on bonuses, relocation benefits, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
